Port Elizabeth - a City of Tourist AttractionsThe city offers a diverse selection of tourist attractions. On the main beachfront can be found the Boardwalk, a casino, restaurant and shopping complex laid out around water features and landscaped gardens.
Also on the beachfront is Bayworld, a complex which comprises a dolphin show amphitheatre, an aquarium, a museum covering everything from history to whales including hands-on exhibits and a snake park where one can get acquainted with some of South Africa's inhabitants that one would not want to meet elsewhere!
For an old-world experience the Apple Express, a narrow-gauge steam train, puffs it's way to Loerie and back. Along the way it crosses Van Staden's gorge on the highest narrow-gauge bridge in the world. For those interested in the history of the ANC, visits to the cell in which Black Consciousness activist Steve Biko was held and the Red Location Museum are essential. There is an art gallery and a museum at St George's Park.
For theatre lovers, the old Opera House is the largest venue while The Ford Little Theatre stages smaller productions. |
